Progress: this is good.

Jus talked with our mortgage lender. Well, when we took on the mortgage, it seemed sensible to go for a ten-year fixed-rate loan; unfortunately, interest rates have dropped, and we're stuck with paying way over market rate for the 'security' of a fixed rate. But maybe not for much longer. They've agreed that if we pay off the arrears, they'll switch us to a lower rate two-year loan; since we're mostly paying interest rather than repaying principal at this stage in our purchase, this seems smart. The buggers, of course, are insisting we pay a WHOPPING huge fee to switch mortgages, but at least they're prepared to put that onto the total. At the end of the two years, therefore, we'll still actually owe more than we do (savings of about a thousand against costs to switch of about three thousand), but it'll mean we free up about sixty quid a month for the duration; and if interest rates stay low after the two years, we're still in jam.

Sound sensible to people?

Tomorrow to Tamar to see the benefits advisor, and to eat Christmas lunch with the Tamarites. By tomorrow evening I should know what I'm likely to be able to receive in benefits. *puts on determined face and tries not to wibble at the thought of forms and officialdom*. Then it's time to finish the spreadsheets, and to phone CCCS.

Go me. Please.
