again at last. Oh, it's not good, though; it's flat, pedestrian and dull, in that it does what it needs to, but not what I would want it to do.
Maybe I'm expecting too much of it. It's essentially nothing more than a pair of very short bridging scenes setting up things to happen. Yet I can't scrap them and just proceed, because two things are set up in them that would make a reader go "Whoa!" if I presented them as faits accomplis.
I think I'll sit on it for an hour or so and do something headblanking like playing Solitaire, then revisit it. If nothing suggests itself, I'll accept that into every writing a dull stretch must fall and post it anyway.
