Quiz madness, courtesy of the lovely zarathustrav

1: grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. write down what it says:
Health, drew the attention of his committee to the fact that there (Cumbrian Privies, John Dawson, Countryside Books, 1997)

2: stretch your left arm out as far as you can. what do you touch first?:
Air. But if I were to follow my fingertip, it would reach a book called Common Sense about Sexual Ethics: a Christian View on the bookshelf to the left of my study door.

3: what is the last thing you watched on tv?:
And took any notice? I'm not a TV viewer. The last thing I paid any attention to was a programme on intersexuality which I half-watched at Matt's place on Monday evening.

4: without looking, guess what the time is:
Getting towards 3am.

5: now look at the clock, what is the actual time?:

6: with the exception of the computer, what can you hear?:
A John Adams piece: Harmonium, part 2: Because I Could Not Stop For Death. However, that is being played on my computer's DVD drive, so if I have to discount that, I'd have to say the sound of my breathing, since the headphones do a good job of filtering out most extraneous noise.

7: when did you last step outside? what were you doing?:
Outside of any building? This afternoon, when coming back from town. I called in at the local shop to buy four pints of milk, then left it to come home. I haven't been outside since.

8: before you came to this website, what did you look at?:
I read my mail on

9: what are you wearing?:
A white T-shirt with a very faded photograph of the interior of a Spanish cathedral, courtesy of Minolta; navy boxers, cords and socks.

10: did you dream last night?:
Yes, as usual.

11: when did you last laugh?:
This evening, I'm sure, but I can't quite remember why.

12: what is on the walls of the room you are in?:
Flintstones wallpaper inherited from the previous owners, curtain rail, electrical sockets, and lots of bookshelves (though strictly speaking they're not fixed to the walls).

13: seen anything weird lately?:
A picture of a whale that had exploded due to abdominal decomposition, with a moped parked in the middle of the shambles. It was in this month's edition of Fortean Times.

14: what do you think of this quiz?:
Rather more interesting than most.

15: what is the last film you saw?:
I think it was probably Red Dragon.

16: if you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first?:
This house. Practical things first, he said virtuously - and it's true.

17: tell me something about you that i don't know:
I can masturbate equally well with either hand.

18: if you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?:
Infeasibly? abolish prejudice. Feasibly? wipe out riverblindness.

19: do you like to dance?
I used to, but since even walking can be awkward and painful for me sometimes...

20: imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?
I really don't like the idea of naming children. I think a name's far too personal to be left to the whim of a parent.

However, I do like several female names. Katherine, Elizabeth, Emily, Grace, Jane...

21: imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?
See above. Names I like: Matthew, John, Daniel, Jeremy, Alexander...

22: would you ever consider living abroad?
Yes, but I don't think I'd wish to do so permanently; I have so many dear friends and family members here in the UK.
