When holidaying not so far from a place described as Scotland's National Book Town, it would be a stronger soul than I who could refrain from smiling winningly and asking "May we...?"
We did. And I bought books. Many Several books. To wit:
Cabell, James Branch Figures of Earth Cabell, James Branch Jurgen Cabell, James Branch The Silver Stallion Chesterton, G. K. The Flying Inn Davis, Lindsay Scandal Takes a Holiday Frazer, G. Adonis Attis Osiris: Studies in the history of Oriental Religion George, Andrew (tr) The Epic of Gilgamesh Highfield, Roger The Science of Harry Potter Jennings, Paul (ed) The Book of Nonsense Knox, Ronald In Three Tongues Lancaster, Osbert Temporary Diversions Liddell, Henry George and Scott, Robert A Greek-English Lexicon Mabey, Richard Flora Britannica McCall Smith, Alexander Tears of the Giraffe O'Donnell, Elliott Scottish Ghost Stories Pain, Barry The Octave of Claudius Park, Ruth The Muddle-headded Wombat Stays at Home Priestley, J. B. English Humour
I was particularly pleased by getting another Muddle-headed Wombat book and a full Liddell and Scott. I've had the abridged L&S ever since I was at school, but I've always wanted the full one. It was rather a snip, too: £12.50 for a good-condition copy of the 8th edition.
