Everything was delicious. I can't remember a meal where every dish was so equally enjoyable. Best of all, the company was equal in quality to the food, and it was indeed excellent to meet a few people whom I'd only known on LJ, and others who had until today only been names. Poor misstemperance had to leave quite early as it turned out that she'd not after all recovered fully from her indisposition this week, alas.
We had two soup courses (the chicken, banana and cumin with sesame wholemeal bread, and a lovely cream of mushroom); smoked salmon with saffron rice, pickled stuffed chilis and quail eggs; roast beef with roasted vegetables, peas and broccoli; the Intoxicated Tart (a confection of chocolate-chip cookies, brandy and whipped cream); fried rice with spring onions and (I think) ginger; sweet-potato crumble (which was utterly excellent and I WANT the recipe!); tarte au citron; and cheeses, crackers and fruits. All these were accompanied by excellent wines, port, tea, coffee, and for those who like them, cigars. We cook good meals, we do.
Are we not fat? But though all that may sound like a lot (and it was!), the meal lasted from 2 pm to 9 pm or so, and, knowing what was to come, we took good care not to overload ourselves at any point.
I'll put up my recipe for the chicken, banana and cumin soup tomorrow – yes, even the Secret Ingredients! Aren't you honoured?
And now, replete, merry and very glad of my friends, I shall toddle off to bed.
