Now, quite apart from the "kill them!" / "let 'em keep it!" / "prove he/she/they/you exist!" wankery in the comments, I was troubled to see all those posts from Canadians along the lines of "I'm a Canadian and I wouldn't do that!"
A shining example: First off, as a Canuck, I am appalled at the behavior of my countrymen- we've worked hard to create the stereotype of the "good Canadian"abroad, all it takes is one bozo (or family of bozos) to ruin our goodname.
It's possible that I've been mistaken all my life, but I'd never so far entertained the notion that somewhere in Canada there must be a vast injection-moulding system churning out howeversomany ISO-standard Canadians per diem, complete with identical moral structures, but apparently those commenting Canadians have some reason to believe that whenever one of their number does a Bad Thing, the rest of us are all going to swivel, point and scream in sync, like the Pod People from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, at any conveniently-to-hand Canadian because it'll be our cameras next.
I don't understand that collective-cringe mentality one bit. One bozo does not make a busful. I know many really excellent Canadians, and one utter scuzzball, and that seems to be about the general ratio of good-to-bad in people of any nationality that I've experienced.
